Though We Have Only Love: The Songs of Jacques Brel
Pre-Order Larry’s fifth album by January 2, 2026 to get a signed copy!
Though We Have Only Love: The Songs of Jacques Brel, is a tribute to the legendary Belgian singer and actor Jacques Brel. Out January 9, 2026, the album reimagines 14 of Brel’s iconic 1950s and ’60s chansons in a contemporary alt-rock style while staying true to their original melodies and harmonies.
The album features Beckett on vocals, spoken word, and piano alongside long-time collaborator Stuart Anthony (vocals, guitar), with contributions from Mike Hodgkins (drums), Matt Canty (bass), and James Edge (piano, keys, flute). Together they breathe new life into Brel’s catalog, balancing reverence with fresh, modern energy.
Spanning from driving rock anthems to intimate spoken-word pieces and a shimmering flute quintet, the songs explore the many facets of love—lost (“Juliet”), enduring (“Song of the Old Lovers”), unrequited (“Madeleine”), fleeting (“The Next Lover”), and eternal (“I Love You”). The album also turns outward with “The Lowlands,” an ode to homeland, and “The Dove,” a poignant meditation on war.
Lyric booklet included.
